Thermodynamic Study of Carbon Capture and CO2 Reduction to Solid Carbon Species

Due to the heightening of the greenhouse impact and the accentuation on the use of CO2 resources, research directed toward carbon capture, storage and utilization has turned into the current research center in the environment and energy. This can be done through various methods such as adsorption using porous materials and Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are relatively new porous materials for CO2 separation and capture. These novel, porous materials are attracting increasing amounts of attention due to their high porosity, low crystal density, and high thermal, and chemical stability and as well as low energy requirements during regeneration, potentially superior to state-of-the-art absorption technology. Once the CO2 is captured using adsorption, the current carbon capture focuses on desorption and compressing CO2 into a liquid form, transporting it to a suitable site, and injecting it underground. The goal of this article is to demonstrate the way that the principles of carbon capture and storage technologies can be improved using the basic principle of thermodynamics such as Gibbs change (?G ), change in enthalpy (?H), change in entropy (?S), Isosteric heat of adsorption (?HX), adsorption potential (A), hopping number (n), sticking probability (S*), adsorption density (?) and activation energy (Ea) and phase equilibria can be applied to improve the carbon capture and adsorption technology.
